INDEPENDENCE DAY

INDEPENDENCE DAY: August 15, 1947
India finally achieved freedom from the British colonial rule on 15 Aug 1947. “ At the stroke of midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India awoke to life and freedom”

It would be a serious mistake not to mention the growing mass upsurge that engulfed the nation in post- Second World War period, proceeding the dawn of Independence. The period was marked by intense struggles by different sections of the working people- general strikes by workers, peasant struggles in different parts of the country including the Tebhaga movement, Punnapra Vayalar struggle, the surma valley agitation of Assam, the revolt of warli tribals of Maharashtra, the struggle of peasants in the PEPSU(Patiala and East Punjab States Union) region of Punjab, the great Thelangana struggle. This mass upsurge  was crowned by thje RIN( Royal Indian Navy) revolt by Naval ratings, backed by the working class and militant sections of the people, which gave the signal to the British imperialists that their days were over, that they could no longer hold India , the jewel in their crown.

The INA( Indian National Army) movement by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Captain Lakshmi etc and  the revolutionary movements by Bhagath Singh  Chandrasekhar Azad, Rajguru, Ram Prasad Bismil, Udam Singh,Mangal Pandey, etc etc.. could not be forgotten.
In the event of Independence Day pay homage to the unsung heroes of the freedom struggle and carry forward the struggle to complete the tasks that remain unfilled.
